About the Integrated Research Center

Establishment of the Integrated Research Center

Kobe University aims to continuously evolve and develop as a “global hub for the multidisciplinary co-creation of research and education that cultivates profound knowledge and outstanding innovators ” by leveraging its strength in the fields of humanities and human science, social science, natural science and biomedicine. To embody this long-term vision of the university, the Integrated Research Center of Kobe University was reorganized in April 2022. It aims to facilitate collaborative relationships with off-campus organizations mainly in the Kobe Port Island district (KOBE Biomedical Innovation Cluster) and to build a world class interdisciplinary research and education hub by co-creating with off-campus research institutes, other universities and industrial circles.

The Research Building (west side of the main building) and the Hall Building (east side of the main building) of the Integrated Research Center were constructed in April 2011 and in March 2012, respectively, in the Kobe Port Island district. Finally, the Annex Building was completed in March 2015. The principles of the Integrated Research Center are:
1) To promote interdisciplinary co-creation research as a whole university
2) To pursue interdisciplinary co-creation research in collaboration with off-campus research institutes, other universities and industrial circles as well as with Kobe City while proactively participating in and contributing to efforts in science cluster formation in the Port Island district
3) To reinforce alignment with RIKEN’s supercomputer Fugaku to contribute to the advancement of computational science in cooperation with relevant research institutes and universities around the country

We will continue to accumulate diverse research personnel in the Port Island district, aiming to establish a hub for world-class knowledge. At the same time, we will work toward solutions for various challenges on both local and global scales through cultivation of new fields and interdisciplinary fusion from the viewpoint of creating new value and implementation into the society of the future.
